The Prince of Orange in Hall Street Chelmsford used to be a rather tatty old pub with a handful of punters, until it was taken over in the late 70′s by Andy Barrett.

The pub was transformed into a social mecca for suits, punks, bikers, hippies, heads, dreads and general p*ssheads. At the height of its popularity it was heaving with heaving customers nearly every night. The exotic garden was an interesting experience with various under the table ‘exchanges’ taking place and plans hatched for crashing this or that party. (There was always rumoured to be one at Firecrest Road – there never was).

Eventually it had to end and now it’s an Irish pub called O’Connors with a completely different atmosphere and clientele but with cleaner toilets.

The reunion that took place on 11th July 2009, attracted literally hundreds of old faces and proved that you can’t keep an old pub down.
